This seems misguided to me. An ad for Always menstrual pads that features "some of East London's finest transvestites" crying over the fact that they don't have periods. Except that they aren't really transvestites, they're drag queens. And of course it's insensitive and insulting to trans women for whom not having periods is painful and not funny. And I can't imaging women being entirely comfortable with it either. Or am I being overly sensitive? I am firmly of the belief that anything is fair game for humour, but this humour seems to missunderstand everything.
UPDATE: This comment on Jezebel sums it up better: "There are people out there who do wish they had periods, whether they are trans or infertile or going through menopause. As much as menstruating women legitimately hate their periods, being excluded from the experience is painful for some people. And it's NOT FUNNY. At all.
It's wrong to clumsily use that situation for humor, and it's definitely wrong to use it to make people who menstruate "feel better" about their periods. It's insulting to everyone involved".
