"I promise you I'll never desert you again because after 'Salome' we'll make another picture and another picture. You see, this is my life! It always will be! Nothing else! Just us, the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark!"

His story made a splash back in Nov 2011.
Well now there's a BBC3 documentary about him - though I can't find out when it's broadcast (or was broadcast?) or anything more about it. The BBC3 page this clip comes from is useless.
(thanks Christopher)

Huge love, best wishes, and broken legs all round to my friends Philly and Jenny (and Tonie and Wayne and Sarah and Jack and Ian....) whose beautiful and exciting and wonderful new musical Alice In Funderland previews in the Abbey Theatre tonight. I'm so excited to see it all come to fruition finally.
I had absolutely nothing to do with it and yet I could absolutely burst with pride.
Don't miss it.

Bunny has a full house tonight. Music from Lady K and Ruby Noir, draguery from Dial Emma and Fake plastic Steve, burlesque from Miss Fortune, drag kinguery from Phil T Gorgeous (where's Phil been for ages?) and a debut performance from a newly minted queen, ghetto glamazon Sharon Stonybatter.
Downstairs at Pantibar, 10pm, no cover charge.

I was in Brother Hubbard, the really lovely new cafe on Capel St (a little further down from Pantibar, on the other side just before the Luas line) earlier today to have a perfect espresso macchiato and a really delicious carrot cake. It only opened last week, and has started slowly, only doing drinks and a sweet menu - scones, cakes, pasteries... the brownies are absolutely sinfully delicious - but they are fully up and running with the savoury menu also from next week. (I saw them test running some colourful and fresh looking salads)
The cafe is the baby of Garret and James (above in the aprons) who after traveling and cooking their way around the world, from South East Asia, to the Middle East, to Australia and decided to open their own place in Dublin. The influence of their travels is evident but not in a heavy handed way - among the carrot cakes and brownies and lemon cakes, there are butter and orange blossom scones, Australian Jammy Lamingtons (sponge squares with jam and cream filling rolled in chocolate and coconut), raspberry & apple & rose homemade lemonade. Mmmmmhhhh!
Anygay, while I was in there today, I was one of a few tables, mostly people on their own, reading the paper or working on something, so it was quiet when a stylish woman came in and started oohing and ahhing over the pasteries and chatting with James behind the counter. She was full of questions. She had an accent and dark looks I couldn't quite place but she was particularly interested in James' Middle Eastern travels and cooking influence so I supposed she must have some connection with that part of the world.
Then she asked, "So are you two actual brothers?" James hesitated slightly, clearly wondering how to break it to her. "Or just good friends?" she asked. Everyone looked up from their coffe and papers. James opened his mouth, but still hadn't quite decided how to answer her. But he didn't need to. Everyone in the place cracked up laughing. In fact, we howled! A business man at the table beside me answered firt: "Oh they're very good friends! Very close they are!" before adding something about this being the 21st century.
It shouldn't have even been that funny but I guess it was the fact that it clearly hadn't even entered her head when you'd think that James and Garrett, in their matching natty aprons, standing proudly over their tray of orange blossom infused scones might have given her a hint.
Anyway, if you are near Capel St, check out Brother Hubbard. And the adorable mop-topped Bruno makes a perfect coffee.

If you were out and about on Dublin's gay scene over the last number of years, there's a good chance you knew Derek "Taxi Driver" Walsh, and an even better chance that he took you from pub to club, or club to party, or party to home in his cab. He may even have turned on his mirror ball for you.
Derek passed away last November after a long illness and this Sunday in the Button Factory in Temple Bar there is an event to celebrate Derek and raise money for the Irish Cancer Society. There will be lots going on, and I'll be there acting as emcee.

I think your favourite One Direction-er says a lot about you. My favourite, of course, is Zayn, which says that I have exquisite taste, enjoy spicy food, have a motherly quality, am possibly drunk, and recognise true beauty as a reflection of my own spectacular beauty make-up skills.
I have never quite understood why Harry is the most popular one. Sure, he's cute enough, but the cutest? I guess it's something to do with him being the tween alpha male, the leader of the pack, the bad boy. Teenage girls always fall for that. And teenage boys! Think back to your scholl days and who were the most popular boys. But where are they now? The things that make you popular in school rarely translate to popular or successful adulthood.
However, my friend Phillip was always a cheerleader for Niall, the culchie from Mullingar. I think he likes an underdog, and let's be honest, Niall was the underdog. Uncool, bad skin, with all the glamour that comes from being from Mullingar.
But according to the Daily Mail, Niall's time may have come. According to the paper, in the US where the boys are having huge success (album straight in at #1, single climbing, first group since the Spice Girls to blah blah blah...) it's all about Niall. They love his accent, and the girls all like that he looks like an 'all American' corn fed boy. And apparently Zayn, with his smoky dark charm is the second most popular, leaving Harry wondering waht happened. I assume the other two are filling out the ranks in the middle. Of course my friend Phillip thinks this is just the beginning of a Niall trend - he's going to get better looking while the others start to wane at the ripe old ages of 18. It's a cruel business is the tween (and old drag queen) market!
I do notice though that they sorted out Niall's acne before they hit the US 0f A. I guess he learned the truth at seventeen, that love was meant for beauty queens, and pop star boys with clear skin smiles....
