I don't know comedian Oliver Callan and have only heard a few bits of the Green Tea radio satire show he's part of so I don't really have a particular opinion on whether his portrayals of various celebrities are homophobic or not - as he's been accused of. (Though I can't find who accused him of it, or where. Anyone know?) However, I have heard a little of the show and I do remember being idly... aware... that every joke being made at David Norris' expense was a gay joke, and rolling my eyes. But to be honest I didn't give it much thought as the radio was only on in the background.
However, the one thing I will say is this: just because you are gay does not mean you can't be a homophobe. You come across it all the time! There are lots of self-hating gays out there. The ones who whinge about the Pride parade, or the ones who hate the camp gays, or the ones who hate the dykes, or the ones who describe themselves on Gaydar as "normal" and "regular" but really mean "not like those awful gays who make me uncomfortable by being everything I fear I am". So as I said I don't know this guy or his work and he may be dead right. Or not. But either way, his sexuality is not a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Tickly Teeth are two Dublin based "rock-rap freak-folk" musicians and I love this ode to singer Samuel Arnold's amputee dog, which comes with a sunny, fun video. My gay Sean sent me the video, asking if I remember Sam because he got a surfboard as a birthday present in Pantibar once. Yes, I do. We are sometimes asked to hide a birthday cake behind the bar, but that ws the only time I had to hide a surfboard.
Tickly Teeth are on Facebook, and you can download their EP HERE.

King of the Dublin bears DJ Martin McCann's Hallowe'en outfit made me giggle.

Which reminded me that I had this pic of Martin dressed as the HIV virus in my phone. And this wasn't even Hallowe'en!

It can be fun to follow some celebrities on Twitter, depending on the celeb of course. Like everyone else on Twitter I follow Stephen Fry, and I follow Dolly of course. And a handful of others. A few I ended up 'unfollowing' because their tweets drove me mad. Celebrities can be extremely needy, and sometimes when they first discover Twitter they are waaaay too eager. They've suddenly found a way to communicate to the world without having to go through the nasty press, and they won't shut up, and it's all one big cry of "LOVE ME!". I had to unfollow Boy George. I also had to unfollow Sinead O'Connor because even I found the incessant tweeting about anal sex too much! Though I believe she quit Twitter anyway.
I also follow Lord Sugar (I started following him when I was watching the last season of The Apprentice) even though I've been meaning to unfollow him for ages, mostly just because his tweets are usually about football or are smarmy celeb in-joking with Piers Morgan. Dull stuff, but occasionally he reveals himself to be a prick. Generally I think he comes across quite well on The Apprentice, but of course that's the plan. However on Twitter - where there is no editor between the public and the tweeter - celebrities often reveal themselves in all their tawdry, uninteresting, flawed, mean-spirited, humanity.
This tweet form Sugar about sixteen year old Janet Devlin on the X Factor caught my eye:

I wasn't the only one who noticed it. Another user picked him up on it and Sugar's responses are gross. The crack about the tent at St Paul's (a reference to the Occupy movement in London) is particularly revealing - because obviously the guy must be a useless hippy leftie pinko commie.
(As you probably know, read the exchange from the bottom up)

It being Hallowe'en an' all, myself and Penny went with our friends Phillip and Adam to Glasnevin Cemetary this afternoon, where roughly 1.5 million Dubliners are burried. If you've never been I highly reccomend it. Apart from the impressive tombs and mausoleums of various people of note (everyobe from Casement to Parnell to Collins to Maude Gonne to Daniel O'Connell's impressive tomb topped off with a huge round tower) it's really atmospheric and stuffed with fascinating statuary, headstones, undreground tombs, follies... and if that's not enough there's a cafe. We opted to just explore for ourselves but you can get guided tours, and round Hallowe'en there are spooky storytellers and other stuff going on. At one point we passed a large group gathered round a grave who suddenly burst into applause (I assume to thank a guide or something) and Adam looked up and said, "She must have been a real bitch!".
It was a fun day. We spent a lot of it trying to peer through cracks or holes in to tombs, trying to see a body for the day that was in it, but to no avail. So insted we tried to ake spooky photos:

And that's just for starters! I really don't know what to say about this, but I've watched it twice have so many questions, none of which are answered in the YouTube info.

Veda and I took our respective pooches to Dollymount Strand for a walk today, only to discover when we got there that the strand had disappeared under a freakishly high tide.

Even the road through the dunes to the beach was under water.

So, change of plan and we went to St Anne's Park instead. I hadn't been into St Anne's since I was at a "Lark In The Park" with In Tua Nua back in the mid 80's sometime, and I was really impressed. I had no idea it was so big or so gorgeous, with wodded paths, culverts, bridges (very Ashford & Simpson "Solid As A Rock" video bridges!), spooky athmospheric crumbling follies and tunnels, as well as the broad avenues, manicured lawns, and cultivated beds.
We were in one of the rose gardens laughing at the fact that all of the rose names sound like drag queens when we discovered a rose called Angela Rippon. Of course it totally makes sense that slightly nerdy rose cultivaters would be crushing on the dulcet-toned BBC newsreader with the famously long legs. She was always my second favourite British newsreader - after Moira Stewart.

We went and had a coffee and a muffin in the lovely little weekend market in one corner of the park, and ouside there was this fun Hallowe'en headless horsewoman and ghost horses giving carriage rides.

Will Young's new video is fun and the dog lovers among you will love it. It has a "Best In Show" vibe.

That's Blathnaid's new number.
Tonight's show is going to be more horrific than usual, because Bunny hasn't learnt her words at all.
Kidding! It's because it's our Hallowe'en Spooktacular! It's going to be a Scream.
10pm, no cover charge.
