According to some reports, and rumours on Twitter sparked by well placed sources, the British Government is going to announce a commitment to same sex marriage, most likely at the Liberal Democrats party conference tomorrow.
Britain of course already has very strong civil partnership which is virtually identical to marriage so "stepping up" to full marriage equality isn't a huge step in a practical sense but is never-the-less important in terms of equality and respect.
And of course if our nearest and most important and intimate neighbour brings in marriage equality, our own silly situation - where we now have three different kinds of legally recognised relationships - will seem all the more silly and untenable.

This is the British National Party's actual party political broadcast. No really. It is. Even though I know that Nick Griffin doesn't have a sense of humor about these things, I still kept half expecting to see Ali G or Sharon Horgan pop up and shout "Bloody foreigners!".
Keep your eyes peeled around the 3:40 mark. When he says "Labour" he actually makes a wanking gesture!
Like me, at the beginning, you were probably wondering, "What the Hell is the Marmite bottle doing there?!! Are Marmite sponsoring the BNP?!!". Well, no, they're not. And Marmite's parent company Unilever are not amused.

A 'secret' tape has revealed the Tory shadow home secretary arguing that B&B's should be able to turn away gay couples, prompting scorn from Labour and outrage from gay rights groups. Ben Summerskill of the gay rights group stonewall said:
"The legal position is perfectly clear. If you are going to offer the public a commercial service – and B&Bs are a commercial service – then people cannot be refused that service on the grounds of sexuality. No one is obliged to run a B&B, but people who do so have to obey the law. "I don't think anyone, including the Tories, wants to go back to the days where there is a sign outside saying: 'No gays, no blacks, no Irish.'"

British MP's are currently in even more trouble than Irish TD's for fiddling their expenses, most notoriously the claim by one MP for £i,645 for a floating "duck house".
And now someone has made a series of fun videos about the scandal, with the aim of getting people to sign a petition calling for political reform. This is my favourite, though there are more on YouTube.
