Last night was the first night of Bunny's new show, The Hutch, at Pantibar and it was a rip roaring success. Bunny was fabulous, and her guests were all great too - fun drag kings, nutty queens, and a delightfully charming and funny poet.
It was jammers from the get-go and the atmosphere downstairs was great - imtimate and fun and the best kind of rowdy. To be totally honest, it was busier than even we'd expected so the poor staff were frazzled, but handled it manfully.
Then things got even more interesting when Pink, who's in Dublin again to perform at the weekend, arrived with a small group. It was crowded already, but she gamefullly squeezed in on the stairs and sat on a step, enjoying the show, and was charming and chatty with everyone. And for the next hour and a half, all was good.
However.... Tegan and Sarah, the Canadian lesbian twin sister indie/pop duo were playing in the Olympia Theatre last night (only two hundred yards from Pantibar) to a full house of very excited young dykes, and as soon as that gig was finished, they all descended on Pantibar, alerted by text/Facebook/Twitter that Pink was there. We were not expecting that, and had no security on the door, so it was suddenly a bit chaotic. Mayhem actually. Thankfully it was close to closing time anyway, but suddenly all these baby dykes were trying to get to Pink and taking flash photos, and as soon as the show was over, she was whisked out the door and into a waiting car that was chased down the street by over-excited young dykes. It was kind of hilarious, - though not for poor Pink!
Anyway, Bunny's show was fantastic, and I am a very proud Mommy.
Apologies for the crap pics, but I only had my phone with me, and I didn't even get a Pink pic so stole this one of her on the Pantibar stairs off the excited internet.

Bunny's new night, The Hutch, starts this Tuesday, June 15th, downstairs at Pantibar. It promises to be a dark "cabargay" of delights every week, with lots of guests lined up. I believe Opus Gei will be joining her this Tuesday, so gab a carrot and I'll see you there!
