Our religious maniac is back - I think he loves me

Remember back in November when a crazy religious maniac delivered a nutty, slightly threatening notice to Pantibar? There were instructions to pin the note to the pub door, and it said that we were closing because we had "realised that homosexuality was a perversion" and "infects the surrounding area with vice and defilement" and needed to be "purged from society" for the "good of the nation" and that we were asking for forgiveness.

Well he came back tonight. Same notice except he's scratched out the old 'closing date' and put in a new one - next Friday. But this time he came right in to the bar at closing time to hand deliver it to one of the barmen and then started shouting that he had "authority from God!".

However because he came in to the bar this time we have the crazed eejit on CCTV.

    Who Killed Teddy Bear?

This creepy 1965 thriller knocked me off my socks when I caught a rare NYC screening of it a few years back. It's incredibly ahead of its time: Its exploration of underside of the swinging 60s, replete with amazing location shots of a very seedy-looking Times Square presage later films like Taxi Driver and Hardcore. And with one overtly gay character -- Elaine Stritch (!) as an aggressive dyke nightclub owner who puts the make on poor little lady DJ (!) Juliet Prowse -- and one who is, shall we say, sexually ambiguous -- Sal Mineo, at his most gorgeous, as a possibly psycho busboy who also has a yen for the bored Juliet, it went farther than Hollywood would dare to tread down the lavender path for decades to come.

Here's Sal's torso in a title sequence which must have been jaw-droppingly explicit for the time:

And here he is again in a weight-room/pool sequence which feels like the opening to a gay porn flick right up until he starts hitting up on Juliet:

It's been up for a few days so...

... I guess this video must have just scraped through YouTube's usually quite prudish decency rules by the skin of it's teeth. Oh, and it's probably NSFW. Unless you work for me in which case it's required viewing.

Screening of 'The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest' for BeLonGTo

There will be a special preview screening of The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest in the Dundrum Town Centre cinema on Tuesday, Nov 23rd, and all proceeds will be going to the LGBT youth organisation BeLonGTo.

As well as a chance to see the movie before the rest of your mates, everyone at the screening will get a goody bag ("goodie" bag?) from Warner Brothers, and someone at the screening wil win a weekend for two at the super swanky, ultra luxurious Ice House Hotel & Spa in Ballina Co. Mayo.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest is the third and final part of Stieg Larsson's worldwide best-selling Millennium Trilogy (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire), which features the bisexual protagonist (and lesbian favourite) Lisbeth.

Under police guard in hospital, Lisbeth Salander (NOOMI RAPACE) is charged with murder and awaits the trial that has the country gripped. Cut off from all communication with the outside world, she must rely on journalist and former lover, Mikael Blomkvist (MICHAEL NYQVIST) to prove her innocence and expose the political cover up that threatens to destroy her freedom. In his way stands a mysterious group who will go to any lengths to keep the shocking truth of their actions a secret.

Tickets are €20, and can be got through BeLonGTo's website HERE.

Please Note: As the film is not yet rated, tickets are available only to those 18 and over. (though will they really check your ID at the cinema?)

Did you know that the second Nightmare On Elm Street movie has a gay subtext?

    Or maybe not even "sub"?

I'm not much of a horror movie fan so I did not know that it's known as the "gay" Freddie movie by horror aficionados. Though apparently most of the crew, including the director didn't know it at the time either.

Should 'Ticked Off Trannies With Knives' be lauded, not criticised?

I've posted previously about the controversial movie Ticked Off Trannies With Knives, which has drawn the ire of some groups for it's portrayal of transexuals. However others, including well known Village Voice columnist Michael Musto have come to it's defense.

For one thing, GLAAD found it demeaning that the characters seem more like drag queens who could easily be considered "ridiculous caricatures" of femininity-I guess to them, the only good transsexuals are the ones trying to blend quietly into society-but I found the women funny, tart-tongued, and caring. (So shoot me if they were also breasty and well-accessorized.) I adored them! And they even use condoms! The male villain, on the other hand, is an openly transphobic and absolutely psycho bat-wielder, and he comes with two equally maniacal accomplices! So we're basically mad at a movie where sympathetic gals bond in sisterhood and kick ass when nutjobs start hating on them? Shouldn't GLAAD give this an award? (Sidebar: Years ago, they loved As Good as It Gets, in which a bland gay gets brutalized and is completely abandoned by his friends, leaving him with a straight woman and a homophobe who nobly decides gays are OK. Even if they abandon their friends.)

    Mr Gay Pantibar

We had a lot of fun with the Pantibar heat of Mr Gay Ireland last night. Obviously, there was a lot of gay pressure on us, seeing as last year's Mr Pantibar, our Max, went on to win the Mr Gay World title.

First we whittled our seven contestants down to three. Yes, one of them was a girl. Liz was a really fun dyke who I grabbed for the laugh, and she won everyone over with her fantastic tits!

Then we lost Liz when she was the slowest to get down to her knickers...

Which left us with Guilerme and Philip...

... to fight it out by Connect 4!

And Guilerme emerged victorious, to be congratulated by the reigning Mr Gay World (and now ex Mr Pantibar) Max.

But everyone loved Philip so much, that the Mr Gay organisers gave him a 'wild card' entry to the Mr Gay Ireland final too!

    "Gaysong"

Cute ukelele-playing, talented singing teens, Rocky and Balls, who are a bit of an internet sensation, have a new song dedicated to their gay mates. It's a kind of fag-hag anthem. They're very cute, these girls.
