I had a call from TV3 earlier today asking if I would go on tomorrow night to discuss gay marriage with Brenda Power, who is already booked to appear. Needless to say I was a little dubious. "Does Brenda know you're asking me?" I inquired. "Well, no, not yet"
I said I'd think about it and get back to them. On the one hand, I'd be a little wary that I was being asked for all the wrong reasons, but on the other hand, perhaps it would finally put an end to all the hoo-haa. And I suppose I was thinking that Brenda would see I'm not actually the baby-stealing misogynist ogre she seems to imagine I am, and realise that in fact, I am just a "painfully unfunny" "attention seeking bore" (© my new favourite internet commenter). And I assumed that the discussion would be about gay marriage and not about drag etc.
So, I called them back and said that if Brenda was up for it, I was up for it. "Great", said the researcher, and said she'd get back to me after their production meeting. Which she did - to tell me that the "producer decided that [Gay Community News editor] Brian Finnegan would be more relevant".
Ah well. Another time Brenda, another time....
Anyway, Brenda and Brian will be on Midweek on TV3 tomorrow evening at 10pm.
