Dublin's longest established gay venue, The George, went in to receivership today. The George is part of the troubled Capital Bars group which failed to agree terms with AIB Bank, to which it owes €25 million. How this will pan out eventually is hard to know, but one way or another, it's all change at The George.
I hope for all the staff's sake that something can be worked out. Good luck to them.
UPDATE: The Irish Times report on the situation.

... as Capital Bars, the company that owns Dublin's two biggest gay bars/clubs, The George and Dragon, is in serious financial trouble.

Of course the scene is awash with rumours, but I suspect there's no real possibility that The George will be going anywhere. The Dragon however, might have a more difficult fight for survival ahead. With my business hat on, I can't pretend that what's bad for the competition isn't good for Pantibar, but with my business hat off, I wish them the best. I have a lot of friends working in Dragon, and indeed used to work there myself. Many moons ago when I lived in Japan, I worked for a company that went through a slow collapse, and it was a difficult and unhappy time for everyone concerned.
