These scans are cross sections of the legs (quadriceps) of a 40 year old athlete, a 74 year old athlete, and a 74 year old who takes no exercise. As you can see, there is very little difference in muscle tissue and fat between the two athletes, while the muscle tissue of the sedentary 74 yr old has wasted dramatically. Scary.
