Drag icon and best gay Shirley Temple-Bar is currently in hospital where she's recovering after an operation to give her a brand new vagina. And a lovely job they did too!
Kidding! There's nothing wrong with her old vagina.
But poor Shirl has had an operation which is going to leave her with a wonderfully glamorous scar which will look fabulous with glitter on it, and will distract from her club foot, so that's all good. I won't tell you exactly what happened to her, because I feel if I leave a touch of mystery about it, then all sorts of wild rumours will fly about the Irish gay community, and I suspect the rumours will be much more fun than the mundane - but grizzly - truth.
Myself and Veda and Dolly went to visit her today. I brought her a book (Butler's The Lives Of The Saints - fabulously gruesome), Veda brought her a book (The Fairy Bridesmaid's Pop-Up Castle) and Dolly brought her swine flu.
She was in fairly perky form, mostly because she was a bit 'mad out of it' on various drugs. So was Dolly. She's in a ward with lots of older men, which I pointed out to the nurse was surely some sort of mistake! But they wouldn't budge.
While we were there, a nurse gave Shirl another four big pills (Which we shared. Well, it would have been rude of Shirley to take tham all right there in front of us!), and shortly after she started going cross-eyed and talking gibberish and pulling at her IV. It was nice to see her back to her old self again, but we slipped away and left her to it. The last thing she mumbled was, "Now I'm a real girl..."
Here are a couple of pics I took before the drugs turned her into a gibbering, drooling lady-boy. Here she is enjoying Veda's gift and studiously ignoring me...
And here she is showing off her sexy, sexy hospital stockings. Though her operation wasn't on her leg, so I can't be sure that they're not her own...

It's nice to see her doing well though, because she used to get bullied terribly.
