Sure, there are lots of time-lapse films of busy cities but this one is particularly good. Of course the city looks amazing, but there are some really beautiful and creative transitions between scenes, between day and night, and some really clever focusing on single travelling objects among the chaos, like a single pedestrian, or a car, or even a shopping centre lift. Even a cute bit of sound editing as a train enters a tunnel. Apparently it took five months and 400 hours of work to do, and uses almost 20,000 photographs. It looks it.

Really beautiful time-lapse of Irish skies by photographer Peter Cox that reminds you of the stunning beauty of the skies and clouds we spend so much time complaining about. There really is an "Irish light" you get nowhere else.
Watch full screen.

A bit of tilt-shift too. Watch full screen. It'll make you want to go to Venice and fall in love with some fella who then charges you €250,000,000 for a gondola ride, but you're still mad about him anyway.

Rather than leaving the camera to shoot automatically, this time-lapse of animator Barry Purves animating a Tchaikovsky puppet was shot manually so that the puppet animates in the final film. If you follow that? Oh it doesn't matter, just watch it and you'll see what I mean.

Oddly compelling and beautiful time-lapse of the sky over Tottenham as the fires burned during the riot.

Lovely evocative time-lapse of Dublin shot in various locations around the city this spring by photographer Richard Twomey. I never need reminding how beautiful Dublin can be -mostly because of the amazing light - because walking aimlessly with Penny regularly reminds me of that often over-looked fact, but if you've forgotten, watch the clip.

Another of Tokyo based French photographer Samuel Cockedey's beautiful time-lapse films of the metropolis at night. These films make me ache for Tokyo. I miss it.
Watch it full screen.
